Have you ever tried to imagine God’s awe-inspiring splendor? Several men in the Bible had visions of God and heaven. The visions were so majestic and grand that they were beyond words. Note: We know God is a spirit and is neither male nor female. The Bible refers to God as he, but the pronoun he, according to Dictionary.com (2024), can also be generic.
The Apostle John’s vision of the Son of God in Revelations 1:14-18, “The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16) In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. 17) When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.”
The prophet Daniel’s vision of God, whom he called “The Ancient of Days.” Daniel 7:9 says, “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.”
Prophet Ezekiel’s vision in Ezekiel 1:26-28, “And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance. 27) And upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around. And downward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness around him. 28) Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.”
King David’s vision. “Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. 3He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind.”–Psalm 104:1-3
Our imagination is a powerful tool that can deepen our connection with God and enhance our worship. It allows us to envision His splendor, to feel His presence, and to engage more fully in our worship. As you worship God this week, imagine standing before Him as you praise Him.
