Week 48: Worship God because He is blessed.

Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the LORD! –Psalm 106:48

In this week’s post, we will explore the meanings of words to understand the meaning of this verse. We will begin with “Blessed be the LORD,” which means worthy of praise, honor, and adoration. Everlasting means for eternity. We worship God because He is worthy of praise, honor, and adoration.

Why do translators use the words LORD or Lord in one place and God in another place? CompellingTruth.com’s explanation is as follows; “Here are a few of the terms used in the Bible and what they refer to in the original Hebrew or Greek. LORD (in all caps or small caps): This spelling is usually used when God’s proper name is meant. The Hebrew, without vowels, is YHWH (also known as the tetragrammaton). No one knows for certain what the proper pronunciation of this should be, but other translations are Yahweh or Jehovah.” According to gotquestions.org, they explain, “In the Old Testament, when ‘God’ is used, it is usually a rendering of the general Hebrew word for God, ‘Elohim.’ When ‘LORD GOD’ or ‘Lord GOD’ occurs, it is usually a rendering of a dual name for God ‘Adonai YHWH.’ The Hebrew term ‘YHWH Sabaoth’ is usually rendered ‘Lord of Hosts.’ The Hebrew term ‘YHWH Shaddai’ is usually rendered ‘LORD Almighty.’”

And let all the people say, AmenThe idea is, let all the people join in this; let them all express and declare their assent to this: let them all say, “Be it so.” The word “Amen” is a word expressing assent – meaning verily, truly, certainly (Albert Barnes Commentary).

King David also wrote similar prose that describes why God is worthy of praise, honor, and adoration.

Blessed be the LORD! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. –Psalm 28:6

Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city. –Psalm 31:21

Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me! –Psalm 66:20

Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah –Psalm 68:19

Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God! –Psalm 68:35

Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. –Psalm 72:18

The Apostle Paul also wrote:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. –2Corinthians 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. –Ephesians 1:3

This week, worship the blessed God who loves you. Each day describes reasons for worshiping Him. May He bless you richly this week.

WEEK 48–November 26-December 2

Day 330-Nov. 26—Worship God for being patient and not wishing anyone would perish.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. –2Peter 3:9

Day 331-Nov. 27—Worship God because He is light.

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. –1John 1:5

Day 332-Nov. 28—Worship God is faithful to forgive your sins.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. –1John 1:9

Day 333-Nov. 29—Worship God for sending His Son to destroy the works of the devil.

The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. –1John 3:8b

Day 334-Nov. 30—Worship God because He is greater than your heart and knows everything.

By this [love with deeds, vs. 18] we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. –1John 3:19-20

Day 335-Dec. 1—Worship God for giving us His commandments so you can abide with Him.

Whoever keeps his commandments [belief and love, vs. 23] abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us. –1John 3:24

Day 336-Dec. 2—Worship God because He is love, and you can love with His love.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. –1John 4:7-8

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. –1John 4:16
