Week 46: Worship is praising God’s word.

In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? –Psalm 56:4

What kind of person do you not trust?  If someone tells the truth and keeps their promises, would you trust them? Would you agree that God’s word is truth? The above verse has two truths. The first truth is our worship focus.  When you trust God, you will praise His word. Why? When you trust God, you won’t be afraid of what others do to you.

What was happening in the Psalmist’s life when he wrote Psalm 56? David had been captured by the Philistines. He writes in Psalm 56:1-4, “Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me; my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly. 3When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. 4In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” At some point in your life, could you identify with David? Do you trust God to be gracious to you during adversity? The last verse of this Psalm says, “For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.”

I wrote the following in in post called Week 39: Worship God with your soul.  “Based on the Bible’s description, our soul stores our feelings, which leads us to praise and gratitude to God. This makes sense, doesn’t it? If you fill your soul with the wonderful truths of God, then you are inspired to praise Him.” Have you noticed that when you focus on your problems, you feel depressed and despaired? David said that God delivered His soul from death and kept him from falling. This is because David positioned his mind to praise God’s word and trust Him. As a result, he could “walk with God in the light of life.” Only as we worship God can we experience God’s light and life despite our troubles.

Even though the Philistines were oppressing David, he kept his focus on God and could praise His word and trust Him. How about you? Do you need to make a mental shift?  I know I have to almost every day. I pray God blesses you this week as you worship Him and trust Him.

WEEK 46–November 12-November 18

Day 316-Nov. 12—Worship God, who is the same from the beginning to the end of time.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. –Hebrews 13:8

Day 317-Nov. 13—Worship God, who gives you wisdom when you ask.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. –James 1:5

Day 318-Nov. 14—Worship God, who will give us the crown of life.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. –James 1:12

Day 319-Nov. 15—Worship God that He does not tempt you and will help you.

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. –James 1:13-14

Day 320-Nov. 16—Worship God for the gifts He gives you.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. –James 1:17

Day 321-Nov. 17— Worship God, who causes the devil to flee from you.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. –James 4:7

Day 322-Nov. 18— Worship God, who values you and draws near to you.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. –James 4:8

Week 45: Worshiping God leads others to trust in Him.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. –Psalm 40:3

King David sang a new song because of what God did for him. Today, we testify of what God has done for us. In verses 1 and 2, he said, “I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry.” You, too, must wait patiently for God’s right timing as He works behind the scenes to bring about His plan for you. Sometimes, you need to cry to the Lord when you need His mercy and grace. Hebrews 4:14-16 tells us, “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Then in verse 2, King David said: “He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.” This sounds like King David was being oppressed, either by the devil, other people, or by his own thoughts. Christ is our rock whom we can trust. Only Jesus Christ can secure our steps. If you find yourself stuck in the pit of destruction or a miry bog, which could be depression, anxiety, addiction, bad decisions, and so on, know that God will hear your sincere cry. King David’s experience should encourage many to hope in God.

When God answers our prayers or delivers us from oppression, we are to tell others what God did for us. When we testify to others, then verse 3 says, “Many shall see, and fear, and trust in the Lord.” There is a holy reverent fear of God, which is not only consistent with but the foundation of our hope in Him. The fear of God comes from understanding His mighty power that holds the Universe together and in your life situations. We live in a world that offers no hope. Your testimony of praise about God’s power in your life will give someone else hope, so they, too, will trust Him.

In the coming week, reverence, worship, and honor God as you share your testimony of praise. May you be blessed greatly this week. May you find mercy and grace to help you in your time of need.

WEEK 45–November 5-November 11

Day 309-Nov. 5—Worship God for giving a new covenant, putting His laws on our hearts and minds.

“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their mind.” –Hebrews 10:16

Day 310-Nov. 6—Worship God for providing a way for you to enter the Holy of Holies.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. –Hebrews 10:19-22

Day 311-Nov. 7—Worship God, who rewards those who have faith and seek Him.

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. –Hebrews 11:6

Day 312-Nov. 8—Worship God who loves you as His child and disciplines you.

It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons [and daughters]. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? –Hebrews 12:7

Day 313-Nov. 9—Worship God that His kingdom cannot be shaken.

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. –Hebrews 12:28-29

Day 214-Nov. 10—Worship God that He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” –Hebrews 13:5

Day 315-Nov. 11—Worship God that He is your helper.

So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” –Hebrews 13:6

Week 44: Worship God forever.

I will extol You, my God, O King, And I will bless Your name forever and ever. –Psalm 145:1

What do you think of when forever is mentioned? Did you ever say, “I wish this could last forever?” As believers in Jesus Christ, worship God and bless His name forever and ever. We get a glimpse of what it will be like to worship God forever and ever in Revelations 4:10-11, “The twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, ‘Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.’”

I can say that I have drawn closer to God by worshipping Him every day. The days I don’t worship Him, I brood on the things of the world and my problems. I become fearful about things that may never happen. How about you?

The Apostle Paul said in Colossians 3:1-2, “ If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” When I worship God, my mind is on the things above where Christ Jesus is. Try it. It will change your perspective about the problems that are causing you stress.

When you begin to ruminate on something you don’t like, try worshiping God, either praise Him in prayer or sing a song of praise or give a sacrifice of thanksgiving. The act of praising God will take your mind off the thing you are unhappy about and change your perspective. For example, when I fret about the state of the United States, I become very depressed, but when I worship God, I am reminded that I am a citizen of heaven and His ambassador here on earth (Phil 3:20 and 2Cor. 5:20).

King David said in Psalm 52:8-9, “But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. 9I will thank you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly.” King David had an eternal perspective. Do you? As you worship God this week, give Him your concerns and focus on his love and goodness. Be thankful for the work of God in your life and the lives of others who may be causing you problems.

As you worship God this week, I challenge you to focus on the things above where Christ is seated. I pray you will be blessed and receive honor as you worship God this week.

WEEK 44–October 29-November 4

Day 302-Oct. 29—Worship God for His living and active Word that can discern your thoughts.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. –Hebrews 4:12

Day 303-Oct. 30—Worship God, who sympathizes with your weaknesses.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. –Hebrews 4:15

Day 304-Oct. 31—Worship God, who gives you mercy and helps you in your time of need.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. –Hebrews 4:16

Day 305-Nov. 1—Worship God that He is not unjust and will not overlook your good work and love.

For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. –Hebrews 6:10

Day 306-Nov. 2—Worship God that His Son is interceding for you.

Consequently, he [Jesus Christ] is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him since he always lives to make intercession for them. –Hebrews 7:25

Day 307-Nov. 3—Worship God for being merciful, who will not remember your sins.

For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” –Hebrews 8:12

Day 308-Nov. 4—Worship God, whose Son will come again to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him.

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. –Hebrews 9:27-28

Week 43: Worship and call on His name.

Oh, give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! –1Chronicals 16:8 and Psalm 105:1

If you thank someone for a good deed they did, you would call them by their name. For example, if my husband does something nice for me, I would say, “Thank you, Gary, for doing the dishes.” In last week’s post, we explored praising God for His many wondrous works. This week, we will examine the benefit of calling upon His name, which is powerful to rescue us from trouble. Psalm 91:14-15 states, “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.”

The Lord’s name is powerful for those who invoke it. I love these promises in the above passage, but you must hold fast to God in love and call on His name. Proverbs 18:10 states, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” I think this metaphor is cool. The righteous person knows the name of the Lord and will feel peace when they call on Him. If the name of the Lord is a strong tower and a safe place, why do we not run into it by calling on Him instead of fretting when we are troubled?

No one wants to endure trouble. Jesus said that in this world, we will have troubles, but He will give us His peace (John 16:33). Sometimes, amid our troubles, we will have to give Him a sacrifice of thanksgiving as King David did in Psalm 116:17, “I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD.” I wrote a post on giving a sacrifice of thanksgiving, which you can read here.

However, we must be mindful not to take the name of the Lord in vain, as explained in the 10 Commandments. Exodus 20:7 states, “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.” Further, Leviticus 19:12 states, “You shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.” King James Version says, “And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.” So, you must respect the power and holiness of God’s name. Using His name in vain means saying it outside of prayer, telling others of His wondrous works, and worshiping. I must admit I am guilty of not always being mindful of how I use God’s name, which I will change.

Isaiah 12:4 states, “And you will say in that day (salvation): ‘Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted.’” Exalted means illustrious or glorious. This week, be mindful of how you use the name of God. Remember, His name is powerful and is to be exalted in worship and not taken in vain.

May God bless you richly this week.

WEEK 43–October 22-October 28

Day 295-Oct. 22—Worship God for coming to earth and making purification for your sins.

He [Jesus Christ] is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. –Hebrews 1:3

Day 296-Oct. 23—Worship God for sending His angels to minister to you.

Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? –Hebrews 1:14

Day 297-Oct. 24—Worship God for the miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. –Hebrews 2:4

Day 298-Oct. 25—Worship God, who has subjected all things under Jesus Christ.

You made him [Jesus Christ] for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under his feet. Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. –Hebrews 2:7-8

Day 299-Oct. 26—Worship God for sanctifying you and not being ashamed of you.

For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” –Hebrews 2:11-12

Day 300-Oct. 27—Worship God that His Son is your merciful and faithful high priest and has paid the debt for your sins.

Therefore he [Jesus Christ] had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. –Hebrews 2:17

Day 301-Oct. 28—Worship God for helping you when you are tempted.

For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. –Hebrews 2:18

Week 42: Worship God for His wondrous works.

Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!” –Psalm 107:8

Remembering God’s wondrous works that He did for you means you were in trouble and needed His help. The many troubling situations in which the Israelites saw God’s wondrous works were when they needed a miracle. Read the Book of Exodus to appreciate the kinds of wondrous works God did.

Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered. –1Chronicals 16:12

Another way God displays His wondrous works is in His creation, from the stars to the birds and bacteria to fungi. How He created the human body is so amazing; you can worship God for the wondrous works within our bodies. How we see, hear, digest food, make energy, and so on.

Meditate on the following verses and direct your praise to God as you read each verse in Psalm 111.

2  Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.

3  Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.

4  He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful.

5  He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.

6  He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations.

7  The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy;

8  they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

9  He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name!

1Chronicals 16:9 and Psalm 105:2 state, “Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!” Again, we are encouraged to sing praises to God and tell of his wondrous works. Sing “How Great Though Art” with me. Next, I encourage you to read Psalm 107 and meditate on it. This Psalm explains the wondrous works of God and his steadfast love toward those who turn to Him.

May God bless you richly as you worship Him this week.

The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. –2Timothy 4:18

Day 289-Oct. 16—Worship God for giving the Scriptures to equip you for every good work.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. –2Timothy 3:16-17

Day 290-Oct. 17—Worship God for never lying and promising you eternal life.

In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began. – Titus 1:2

Day 291-Oct. 18—Worship God for giving His grace, salvation, and training to everyone.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. – Titus 2:11-12

Day 292-Oct. 19—Worship God for His redemption and purifying work.

Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. – Titus 2:13-14

Day 193-Oct. 20—Worship God for His goodness and mercy in saving you and renewing you by the Holy Spirit.

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior. – Titus 3:4-6

Day 294-Oct. 21—Worship God for justifying you and making you an heir.

So that being justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. – Titus 3:7

Week 41: Worship God with your being.

I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. 34May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. –Psalm 104:33-34 and 146:2

Have you determined to sing praise to God as long as you live and have your being? Your being is your existence. The distractions of the world often keep me from worshiping God. Health issues, family problems, work problems, or financial problems often control our thoughts, which then prevents us from singing praises to God. Even when King David was being chased in the wilderness by King Saul, he still praised God.

King David wrote the following in Psalm 63:1-4, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. 3Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.” Do you have the same passion and zeal? Why or why not?

Verse 34 states, “May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD.” Do you desire to please God? God knows what is in your heart and what you are thinking. Does God find a rejoicing or complaining heart? Do you rejoice in the Lord despite life’s challenges? Philippians 4:4-6 states, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5Let your reasonableness [gentleness] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Are your medications pleasing to Him? Meditation can be:

  • Pondering, which is deep thought;
  • Contemplation, which is reviewing; or
  • Reflection, which is making an application.

When you pray, you are meditating using all three aspects. Sometimes, King David’s meditations to God were very heavy because of the trials he faced, yet in the end, David rejoiced and trusted God to work out his problems.

When you meditate on the following worship focuses, it will please the Lord. Determine in your heart that you will praise God as long as you live and have your being. May He bless you richly this week.

WEEK 41–October 8-October 14

Day 281-Oct. 8—Worship God for calling you to a holy calling according to His purpose.

Who [Jesus] saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began. –2Timothy 1:9

Day 282-Oct. 9—Worship God for abolishing death and giving you immortality.

[Grace,] which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. –2Timothy 1:10

Day 28-Oct. 10—Worship God for being faithful even if you are faithless.

The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself. –2Timothy 2:11-13

Day 284-Oct. 11—Worship God for knowing you.

But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.” –2Timothy 2:19

Day 285-Oct. 12—Worship God for making you a vessel of honor and ready for every good work.

Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. –2Timothy 2:21

Day 286-Oct. 13—Worship God that He can use you as a servant to help others escape from the devil’s snare.

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. –2Timothy 2:24-26

Day 287-Oct. 14—Worship God for standing with you and rescuing you from troubles.

But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. –2Timothy 4:17

Week 40: Worship God with a psalm.

For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with a skillful psalm. –Psalm 47:7

We are familiar with the book of Psalms, but what exactly is a psalm? A Psalm is a song or hymn often written as a poem or prayer that is set to music. According to Dictionary.com (2024) the origin of the word Psalm is Late Latin psalmus , Greek psalmós song sung to the harp, originally, a plucking, as of strings, akin to psállein to pluck, pull, play (the harp).

I wrote two posts about worshiping with singing and worshiping with instruments. Music and singing are central to God’s design for worship. The Apostle Paul teaches us in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” We are to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in our hearts to God. The key is to sing with thankfulness from the heart. Last week, I wrote about how our souls contain our emotions, and I wrote a post on worshiping with thankfulness, so I won’t address these here.

Additionally, the Apostle Paul taught the following to the saints in Ephesus. Ephesians 5:19-21,“Addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Paul wants the church to worship through hymns, psalms, and spiritual songs, which is central to Christian discipline. Paul also emphasized the need to be thankful. You can’t be thankful when you are focused on what you don’t like. We are instructed in Colossians 3:1-3 to set our minds on the things above where Christ is seated.

I personally love singing hymns, but we are also to sing psalms and spiritual songs. One of my favorite psalms to sing is “As the deer pants for the water” Psalm 42. What is your favorite Psalm, Hymn, or spiritual song? Some spiritual songs lack praise for God. Worship leaders must ensure they pick hymns, psalms, and spiritual songs that encourage the church and praise the King of the Universe and the earth.

Pick a worshipful hymn, psalm, or spiritual song and praise the Lord this week. Be blessed as you worship your eternal King and Father.

WEEK 40–October 1-October 7

Day 274-Oct. 1—Worship God, who enables you for ministry.

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry. –1Timothy 1:12 (KJV)

Day 275-Oct. 2—Worship God, who gives you mercy and grace.

Though formerly, I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent man. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. –1Timothy 1:13-14

Day 276-Oct. 3—Worship God for wanting all men to be saved.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. –1Timothy 2:3-4

Day 277-Oct. 4—Worship God for ransoming Himself for everyone and is the mediator.

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. –1Timothy 2: 5-6 (KJV)

Day 278-Oct. 5—Worship God for giving you contentment along with godliness.

But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. –1Timothy6:6-8

Day 279-Oct. 6—Worship God for richly providing for you.

Week 39: Worship God with your soul.

Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! – Psalm 146:1

What is the role of your soul? How can you praise God with your soul? No one really knows the soul’s purpose. Scholars speculate it is your mind, your conscience and sense of morality, and your will. The following excerpt comes from my post called Why heal your heart and purify your soul? “Did you know your emotional heart is part of your soul? The following verses describe how the soul contains our feelings. Job said his soul grieved for the needy (Job 30:25). King David said in Psalm 6:3,My soul also is greatly troubled.” And Psalm 35:12 states, “They repay me evil for good; my soul is bereft [left sad and lonely].” And Psalm 43:5a states, “Why are you cast down (in despair), O my soul, and why are you in turmoil? Hope in God…” And Psalm 88:3a states, “For my soul is full of troubles…” Lastly, Lamentations 3:17 states, “My soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is.”

Based on the Bible’s description, our soul stores our feelings, which leads us to praise and gratitude to God. This makes sense, doesn’t it? If you fill your soul with the wonderful truths of God, then you are inspired to praise Him. However, if you ignore God and sin, this separates you from God by creating a barrier of negative feelings in your soul. I also wrote the following in Why heal your heart and purify your soul? “Our soul longs to be in a right fellowship with God. Moses said in Deuteronomy 4:29, ‘“…Seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search after Him with all your heart and with all your soul.’” The wounds and guilt (from sin) in our hearts and souls hinder us from seeking God and being in the right fellowship with Him, which is another reason we need to heal our hearts and purify our souls.”

King David wasn’t perfect, yet he knew he could approach God for forgiveness and healing, read his confession in Psalms 51. He wrote in Psalm 30:12, “That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.” And in Psalm 119:175, “Let my soul live and praise you, and let your rules help me.” King David knew that God’s rules kept his soul rightly related to God. God’s rules and truths keep our souls pure and full of praise.

Let this week’s worship inspire and encourage you daily. May you be blessed.

WEEK 39–September 24- September 30

Day 267-Sept. 24—Worship God for giving you His precious and very great promises.

By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. –2Peter 1:4

Day 268-Sept. 25—Worship God for helping you to be fruitful and effective for Him.

For if these qualities (faith, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love) are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. –2Peter 1:8

Day 269-Sept. 26—Worship God for helping you to never fall.

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. –2Peter 1:10

Day 270-Sept. 27— Worship God for providing an entrance to His eternal kingdom.

For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. –2Peter 1:11

Day 271-Sept. 28—Worship God that He is not slow to fulfill His promises.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. –2Peter 3:9

Day 272-Sept. 29—Worship God who forgives you and cleanses you from all unrighteousness.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. –1John 1:9

Day 273-Sept. 30—Worship God for providing Jesus Christ to be your advocate.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. –1John 2:1-2

Week 38: Worship God because it is good, and He is good.

Good has many meanings. What do you associate with goodness in someone? Doing something good benefits others. Bad behavior is hurtful, dangerous, or frustrating. The Bible says that no one is good except God. Mark 10:18, “And Jesus said to him,Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.’” 1Chronicals 16:34 states, “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”

What is godly goodness? According to Dictionary.com (2024), one of the meanings for good is morally excellent, virtuous, and righteous. God is perfect, and Jesus never sinned (Hebrews 4:15). But we have a sinful nature that is self-centered and hurtful. We can only be truly good by making Jesus Christ the Lord of our lives. His goodness and righteousness then become part of our nature. God’s goodness makes Him worthy of our praise.

King David wrote in Psalm 92:1-2, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.” So why is it good for us to give thanks to the Lord and sing praises to His name? In this instance, good means right, proper, or fit. Psalm 147:1 states, “Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.” Sing praises to God by recalling all the good things He does for you that have benefited you (i.e., salvation, protection, faithfulness, sustaining power, provision, forgiveness, and so on.)

If doing something good is beneficial, who benefits when we give God thanks and sing praises? Do you benefit? Do those around you benefit? Does God benefit? How does giving thanks and singing praises benefit someone? Ponder this answer as you worship God this week and may God bless you richly this week.

Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. –Romans 8:33

Day 261-Sept. 18—Worship God because nothing can separate you from His love.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? –Romans 8:35

Day 262-Sept. 19—Worship God for making you more than a conqueror.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. –Romans 8:37

Day 163-Sept. 20—Worship God for rescuing you from every evil deed.

The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. –2Timothy 4:18

Day 264-Sept. 21—Worship God, who strengthens you and rescues you from the evil one.

Week 37: Worship God and magnify Him.

What do you magnify in your life or prefer not to magnify? Everyone has admirable qualities they like to accentuate and showcase. If you are a great cook, athlete, or musician, or you are beautiful, you want to showcase your attributes to gain admiration. King David wrote in Psalm 69:30, “I will praise the name of God with song, and magnify Him with thanksgiving.”

I wrote a post on worshiping with thanksgiving, which I recommend reading. Giving thanks is showing appreciation for what someone did or for what happened. I missed getting into a car accident, so I was thankful and praised God for His protection. If someone made you a wonderful meal, wouldn’t you praise them and thank them for sharing the meal with you, and so on? So how do we magnify God with thanksgiving? Be thankful for His wonderful attributes, provision, protection, power, and so on. Being thankful magnifies the praiseworthy attribute by bringing it to people’s attention.

Why does Kind David tell us to praise the name of God? Or exalt His name in this next verse? Psalm 34:3, “O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together.” Why do we exult His name? After pondering this for a moment, the name Taylor Swift came to mind. I don’t listen to or follow Taylor Swift, so I would not show admiration for her when I hear her name. Her name does not have power over my emotions. In the same way, if you do not follow God and listen to His words, you won’t have an emotional attachment, and His name has no meaning to you. So, magnifying someone when you hear their name is to give them praise and admiration if we have an emotional connection.

As you worship God this week, ponder the truths for each day. Do these truths move you emotionally? I pray they do. May God bless you richly with His presence this week.

WEEK 37–September 10- September 16

Day 253-Sept. 10—Worship God for removing condemnation from you.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. –Romans 8:1

Day 254-Sept. 11—Worship God setting you free from the law of sin and death.

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. –Romans 8:2

Day 255-Sept. 12—Worship God who has given you the Spirit of adoption.

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” –Romans 8:15

Day 256-Sept. 13—Worship God who gives you His Spirit to help you in your weakness.

Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. –Romans 8:26

Day 257-Sept. 14—Worship God because His Spirit intercedes for us.

And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. –Romans 8:27

Day 258-Sept. 15—Worship God for working all things out for your good because you love Him.

And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. –Romans 8:28

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? –Romans 8:32
