Are you experiencing God’s power in your life? Or do you sometimes feel powerless and weak? Do you wish you could be stronger when going through trials? Are you tempted to give up? The devil is always tempting you in subtle ways. He is crafty, as he was with Adam and Eve (2Cor. 11:3 and 1Thes. 3:5). He wants you to doubt God, focus on your troubles or fleshly desires, or become offended and unwilling to forgive. God promises to give you His power according to His glorious might. Isaiah 40:29 tells us, “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.” This is a promise you can claim.
When I was going through a divorce, I felt powerless and helpless. I didn’t know where I would live with my two toddlers or how I would pay my bills. My faith was being tested, and I was tempted to give up on God, but I knew He was a miracle-working God, so I trusted Him. I experienced many miracles, which I share in the web post called Trusting God to Keep His Promises. Walking by faith in God for wisdom and strength was not easy, but it was the only way to get through many hardships.
How I received God’s Power and Might.
I first turned my thoughts to God’s promises and claimed them. Second, I continued in prayer about all my needs and fears. For example, the Apostle Paul wrote a prayer in Colossians 1:11, and part of that prayer for the saints was “being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy.” You can pray that for yourself. I need God’s strength because I cannot stand firm in my faith on my own. I need His power to endure my troubles. The power He gives is through the Spirit He gave me when I believed and received Him into my heart (Eph. 3:16-17 and John 1:12). Now, all I have to do is read the Bible, know His promises, and claim them by believing and trusting that God keeps His promises. Praying continually helps you keep your mind on God’s power and promises; then you will have peace and strength.
How Great is God’s Power and Might?
According to Scripture, God’s power and might are immeasurable. Think about that. Immeasurable means beyond measuring. In a prayer in Ephesians 1:19, the Apostle Paul prayed that they may know “what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might.” Paul wants us to know God’s immeasurable power, but you must believe. Have you experienced this power in your life through the work of His great might? Might also means power and strength. In my testimony post linked above, I share all the miracles God did for me.
The Israelites experienced God’s power when He parted the Red Sea. They experienced His power when He fed them manna every day and gave them water out of a rock. He led them by a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day. For the entire 40 years wandering in the desert, He made sure their shoes and clothes did not wear out. After the Israelites experienced all of God’s power and might, they still complained and disobeyed Him. Why? Because they focused on what they did not like and their fleshly desires instead of God’s blessings. If you experienced all these mighty miracles, would you complain?
Riches of God’s Glory
Paul also wrote the following in Ephesians 3:16, “that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being.” This verse explains that God gives us strength and power through His Spirit according to His riches in glory. Wow, we can experience the riches of His glory. This is so hard to comprehend, but doesn’t it make you feel hopeful and joyful? Do you walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, or do you walk according to the world and your feelings?
The power through His Spirit opens your heart to Christ Jesus’ love, so you can be rooted and grounded in love (Eph. 3:17). The power of the Spirit gives us strength “to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:18-19).” WOW!! Are you experiencing this kind of fullness and love? Loving people is hard sometimes, and we need the Holy Spirit’s power to forgive and love others as Christ (Eph. 5:1-2). Are you filled with God’s fullness? You can when you pray continually and trust in Him.
Conclusion
In my experience, you can be filled with God’s power and might as you turn your thoughts to Him in prayer and believe. We all will experience troubles and trials, so we need to stay in prayer and know God’s promises to experience His power and strength. If you struggle with depression or anxiety, you can overcome your anxious or hopeless thoughts through the power of the Spirit of God when you invite Him into your heart.
