8—God Promises to Give You Strength

Do you sometimes think you don’t have the strength to go on? So many things sap our strength, such as illnesses, hardships, depression, stress, disappointments, too many tasks, etc. The solution for enduring troubling issues is easy, but doing it is hard. It is human nature to try to overcome and solve besetting issues in our power, which saps our strength. The solution is to submit to God everything that troubles you. Submitting your troubles to God involves admitting you need God’s help and strength, then letting God take care of your issues, which is hard to do. Psalm 68:35 states, “Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!”

Find Strength in God

Ephesians 6:10 tells us, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” God’s might gives us strength to endure and stand firm against our enemy, who causes most of our troubles. According to 1Chronicals 16:11, you find power when you are in the presence of God through continually praying, praising, and pondering His promises.“Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!” Also, claim Habakkuk 3:19, which says, “GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places.” Have you lost hope? Find your strength and hope to scale the mountains in your life through God’s might, not your useless attempts to be strong. Do you find yourself depressed? Pray and seek God to give you hope and strength to endure the issue sapping your energy.

Strength in Waiting

Sometimes we must wait and seek God for the strength to endure the issues we are facing. When you seek Him, the key to receiving power is to give God an offering of thanksgiving and praise, knowing He keeps His promises. Isaiah 40:31 proclaims, “but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” When you feel weak, especially as you follow, honor, and serve God, trust His promises to strengthen the weak and faint. The hard part is waiting to receive God’s promise. It is equally hard to give thanks in all circumstances, which is God’s will (1Thes 5:18).

Know that you are God’s workmanship (Eph. 2:10), and He is shaping you through tough times to reflect His image (Rom. 8:28-29). Also, adversity causes your faith to become stronger so you can have the strength to endure troubles and temptations. God also has a good work planned for each of us, and we all need to go through hardships to strengthen our faith and character. Claim God’s promise in Psalm 46:1-3 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ²Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, ³though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” God is our refuge and strength when we face grief and difficulties. Though it is hard to endure hardship patiently, we know we are being perfected when we patiently persevere (James 1:3-4).

Trust God to Give You Strength

Trust is hard for us because we need to rely on God to keep His promises. Many of us have painful memories of disappointments when we relied on someone to do something, and they let us down. These painful memories often prevent us from trusting God. Read my short book on my website to learn how to heal painful memories. 2Corinthians 1:20 tells us, “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” We can trust God to keep His promises. By faith, we can speak into existence Psalm 28:7, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” If you need strength and have none, you can call it into existence by believing and claiming God’s promises. Ponder the following Scriptures: “Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, ‘I believed, and so I spoke,’ we also believe, and so we also speak” (2Corinthians 4:13). Also, “Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare [proclaim]; before they spring forth, I tell you of them” (Isaiah 42:9).

Strength for the Grieving

We lose our strength when grieving a loss or disappointment. Nehemiah 8:10b encourages us to “not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Not only do we find strength in God’s presence, but we also will have joy. Psalm 16:11 explains, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 73:26 states, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” What a wonderful promise.

Fulfilled Promises Bring Him Glory

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Romans in Romans 4:20-21 the following, “No unbelief made him [Abraham] waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, ²¹fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.” The Apostle Peter teaches his readers in 1Peter 4:11, “Whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.”

Conclusion

We can only attain God’s strength when we seek His help and submit our troubles to Him. You also find strength when you remain in God’s presence through praying, praising, and pondering scriptures. Lastly, God promises to give you strength for His glory. 7—God Promises to Fight for You

I love hero movies where someone fights for the weak and disadvantaged and rescues them. I am so glad I have the God who created the Universe fighting for me. Why do we think we have to fight for our rights or fight for what we believe? We have GOD!

You may never have faced a situation where you needed God to fight for you, but if you don’t know the promises, you can’t seek God to keep His promises to fight for you. I was facing a rough divorce and custody battle. I claimed God’s promise to fight for me. I had peace and just let God do His thing, and it was amazing to see. My ex-husband tried everything to get custody of our children because he promised that if I separated from him, I would never see the children again. I immediately thought he was going to kill me or the children or all of us. You hear these horror stories of an ex-husband who kills their ex-wives or kills their children. Therefore, I developed severe anxiety, which I am still working with God to overcome.

I feel an anxiety attack coming on as I write this. To stop an anxiety attack, first take a deep breath and relax all your muscles to stop the parasympathetic nervous system from overreacting. Pray and loose the fearful thought or memory from your mind and bind in God’s promises or be thankful for God’s protection.

I can share many examples, but here is one amazing way God fought for me. My ex-husband hired a psychologist to evaluate the children and to testify that I was abusing them. This is the same psychologist we went to after we separated to see if we could keep the marriage together. She later told me that I needed to divorce my ex-husband for my safety. My personal psychologist, who was helping me deal with the abusive relationship with my ex-husband, also advised me that I needed to divorce him.

We were both Christians, and I didn’t want a divorce because I firmly believed God disapproved of divorce, and I wanted to please God. I am digressing, back to the courtroom. The psychologist who evaluated the children was put on the stand to testify. She testified on my behalf that I was not abusing the children. Another amazing thing happened. My ex-husband’s lawyer was also on my side and said so in the courtroom. My ex-husband was so furious that he fired both the psychologist and his lawyer and then stormed out of the courtroom. God is so amazing; to Him be the glory.

I wasn’t a perfect Christian, but I humbled myself and looked to Him to help me and fight for me. But to experience God’s promises, you need to be reconciled to Him by believing that Jesus is the Son of God who died for our sin and was raised from the dead and is seated in heaven (1Cor. 15:3-6 and Rom. 10:9-10). God promised that we could be his children when we receive Jesus, His Son, and believe in Him (John 1:12). God loves His children and will protect them. Carefully read each Bible passage below and note the condition that you are expected to satisfy and what God said He would do.

Exodus 14:13-14 “And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. ¹⁴The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Isaiah 41:11-12 “Behold, all who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish. ¹²You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all.”

Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.”

Psalm 18:3 “I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.”

Conclusion

You will never experience God’s strength and deliverance until you humbly look to Him to give you the strength to endure. As long as you pridefully fight the battle on your own, God will let you, but as soon as you relinquish the battle to Him, begin to praise Him and give Him glory. Trust Him with the troubling situation so that you will have peace and joy. We won’t be afraid when our mind is set on the things above where Christ our Savior is seated. Knowing God is with me in my troubles and is fighting for me encourages me to rest in Him.

Claiming the promises of God in prayer may not yield the results you desired. But the results are part of God’s good plan for you. We all experienced disappointment when our prayers weren’t answered as we wanted. I wrote a series of posts on why God sometimes does not hear our prayers or wants us to wait for His timing, or He says “No.” You can find these posts here. In my third post, I focused on claiming God’s promises to answer our prayers. Remember, most promises are based on meeting conditions. The primary requirement is having faith and believing that what God says, He will do it, and nothing is impossible for Him. Romans 4:20-21 states, “No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, ²¹fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.” Abraham had to wait 15 years to see the promise of God fulfilled, yet he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God because he was fully convinced that God would keep His promise. Are you convinced that God will keep the promises you are claiming in prayer?

6―God Promises to Be Our Protection, Shield, Stronghold, and Refuge

Are you fearful about the future of this world and the proposed World Order? Or are you afraid about the safety and direction of your present life? The only solution to removing fear from our lives is to look up. Colossians 3:1-3 explains, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. ²Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. ³For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” When I set my mind on God’s Word, praying and praising Him, I am filled with peace and joy. So, I have reduced my social media and news viewing to maybe an hour a day, then I pray and praise God for the following promises.

To experience God’s promises, you need to be reconciled to Him by believing that Jesus is the Son of God who died for our sin and was raised from the dead and is seated in heaven (1Cor. 15:3-6 and Rom. 10:9-10). God promised that we could be his children when we receive Jesus, His Son, and believe in Him (John 1:12).

Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” Praise the Lord that His every word is true, and we can know that God will be our shield when we feel afraid and take refuge in Him. You take refuge in God through prayer. If you are in a field or hiking in the woods and a storm comes, or in the city and a bad person approaches you, what is your first reaction? Find shelter or get somewhere safe. One time, my husband and I were hiking the Mid-State trail, and we were on a mountain ridge when a lightning storm was approaching. Yes, we were frightened, and we quickened our pace to get down off the top of the mountain because we had no place to go for shelter. We trusted God for safety, and even though the rain drenched us, and lighting was all around us, God protected us from harm.

Nahum 1:7 “The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.” Wow! God knows when you pray and trust Him to help you and protect you when you are in trouble. We are promised problems in this world, but God promises to be our stronghold, our shelter from the storm. The stronghold of God protects our minds from the fiery darts and assaults of the devil. God is good!

Psalm 9:9-10 “The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. ¹⁰And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.” Someone who is oppressed is being weighed down by troubles in their mind and by the hardships of life. When this happens, look up to God and set your mind on His promises and on His presence. Proverbs 18:10 tells us, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” Psalm 91:14-15 says, “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. ¹⁵When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.” First, we have to call on Him by name in prayer. Second, we must show that we love Him by obeying His commands. See my post on these verses for more insight. The Lord knows who put their trust in Him, and He will not forsake you.

Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” Know that God is with you through all your troubles, even abuse, and you don’t have to be depressed or afraid. Trust God to help you set and keep boundaries if you have to live with a narcissist who abuses you. I have experienced trusting God so many times and have written extensively about my experiences throughout my blog. Jesus suffered much abuse and many temptations when he was on earth, but He stayed in prayer and kept His mind on the will of His Father. He took a whipping for us. He took our sin and paid our dept as He hung on the cross. Yes, Jesus was well acquainted with suffering; you are not alone.

Psalm 91:1-4 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. ²I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ³For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler [devil] and from the deadly pestilence. ⁴He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” Every time I am tempted to be stressed out about some trouble I am facing or troubles in the world, I quote Psalm 91. I wrote a series of posts on this Psalm, so I encourage you to read them.

Conclusion

As you know, just about every promise has a condition we must fulfill to experience what is promised. In the promises above, the conditions are that we pray and trust God. You will never experience God’s strength and deliverance until you look to Him to give you the strength to endure. Trust Him with the troubling situation so that you will have peace and joy. We won’t be afraid when our mind is set on the things above where Christ our Savior is seated. Knowing God is with me in my troubles encourages me to rest in Him, knowing He will help me. 5—God Promises Always to Be There to Help You

Have you ever had to depend on God to help you? One time, the traffic was rerouted around an accident. I had no idea where I was or where I was to go. This was before GPS. I prayed for God to help me know where to turn on the back-country roads to get back on the road I was on. God did help me, and I had peace, though I started to become anxious when I stopped praying. Another time God helped me was when I was in graduate school, I would cry out to God for help when I didn’t know what to write or how to write, God was with me, and He directed my thoughts to get my writing project done. How fantastic is that? I have so many stories, but I want to respect your time.

You can ask God to help you with anything, okay? For example, I lost two international shipment reviews. I knew I had them, and I began to work on the first one, then it and the second shipment review disappeared. I searched all my computer folders in case they shifted out of my work folder into another one, couldn’t find it. I prayed and asked God to help me. He put it into my mind to go into the program that contained the shipment review form and raw data. I went to the tab for reports, but I had to keep praying because I could not figure out how to retrieve the raw data. God helped me so that I could finish my reviews. Whew, who knew God was a computer expert, but guess what, He knows all things, which is why we can trust Him.

In the last post, I explained that God promises to provide for our needs. But you will never know how God can help until you acknowledge you need help. It is unfortunate that no one wants to be in need and is afraid of having to depend on God. In this post, we will explore how God helps us and the fact that He is always with His children. Imagine, we serve the almighty God who promises to help us and wants to help us. I can’t wrap my mind around that. For example, when the Israelites were ready to go into the promised land, it seemed impossible. The Jordan River was at flood stage, and they had to remove those presently living in their promised land. This is what Joshua said to the Israelites.

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

As you know, just about every promise has a condition we must fulfill to experience what is promised. In the two verses above, the condition is that the people are to be strong and courageous and not to be afraid. You will never experience God’s help until you look to Him to give you strength and courage, then trust Him with the situation so that you won’t be afraid. Knowing God is with me encourages me to rest in Him, knowing He will help me.

God promises to help us even when situations look bad.

Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

The situation in Psalm 23:4 is one we all will experience at the end of our lives if we are not instantly killed in an accident. Some people experience being in a perilous place where their lives are in danger. Have you ever gotten lost in a city and found yourself in the wrong neighborhood? A college friend lived in a very dangerous area on a street corner where drugs were sold. She said she had to get on the floor when gunfights started. One bullet went through her window right where she was sitting. God helped her and protected her. She no longer lives in that neighborhood, but she still owns the home.

God promises to help you in every circumstance:

Hebrews 13:5-6 “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” ⁶So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

Isaiah 41:10, 13 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” 13) For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”

If you have been following my blog or read my testimony, you will know that I went through a very difficult time with an old supervisor who harassed me to get me to quit. I sought God’s help not to be anxious for my future and to help me love her and show kindness. God answered my prayer and gave me peace. I put Isaiah 41:10 and 13 on my computer screen, so I was reminded every day that I did not have to be afraid because God was with me. Conclusion

You will never know God is with you until you look up and trust He is with you to help you. Do not be afraid, do not fear. Fear is the opposite of faith and trust. You will never know what it is like for God to help you until you submit your problem to Him and put your hand in His. Have you ever had to depend on God for something? I have, and God provided miraculously, like finding a young Rhode Island chicken in my vegetable garden that I asked Him for. He provided a mortgage for a home I could afford when I was a single mother. You will never know how God can provide until you are in need. It is unfortunate that no one wants to be in need and is afraid of having to depend on God. Imagine, we serve a God who promises to provide for us. When the Israelites were roaming the desert, God provided food and water, plus their shoes and clothes never wore out for 40 years. How amazing, so why do we fear dependence on God?

God promised that we could be his children when we receive Jesus, His Son, and believe in Him (John 1:12).

God promises to hear our prayers and to provide for our needs.

We all have needs, some small and some large. For example, my youngest son was taking piano lessons. We needed a small spinet piano for him to practice with. I rarely listen to the radio, but I had it on the very day and time someone put an ad on Care and Share to give away the exact piano I asked God for. The fact that it was free was an extra blessing because we did not have spare money. So, God does hear our prayers and does want to meet our needs.

We need wisdom, and we often pray for wisdom. God promises to give us wisdom in James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” BUT we must ask, believing that God will give us wisdom. James 1:6-8 states, “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. ⁷For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; ⁸he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

Apply God’s promises to your needs.

No one wants to be in need, but we still have a God who promises to sustain us and provide for our needs from birth to old age. Isaiah 46:3-5 states, “Listen to me,… who have been borne [carried] by me from before your birth, carried from the womb; 4) even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs, I will carry [sustain] you. I have made you, and I will bear; and will save [rescue you]. ” This is my favorite promise.

Read the following promises. The first time say, “I believe (promise).” Read it the second time saying, “Thank you, Lord, (promise). Note the conditions.

I believe, Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” “Thank you, Lord, that You promise to supply every need I have according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Matthew 6:25-26 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? ²⁶Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

Matthew 6:33-34 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ³⁴“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Malachi 3:10 “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”

Proverbs 3:9-10 “Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; ¹⁰then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.”

Conclusion

As you read the following questions, ask God to search your heart and examine your mind because our hearts are deceitful (Jer. 17:9-10). Read the post called UNHEALTHY BELIEFS: What are they and where do they come from? to learn how to remove unhealthy beliefs from your life.

Did you pray for something specific you felt you needed, and were disappointed when God did not provide it? This happened to me, and Satan said to give up my faith in God because He didn’t care. Satan is a liar. God does care and wants to meet our needs (1Peter 5:7) according to our faith.

What unhealthy beliefs keep you from depending on God to provide for your needs?

Are you determined to meet your own needs and wrongly think you don’t need God? What wrong thoughts do you need to transform? Do you trust government agencies to provide for your needs because you lack faith? Do you believe the God who created the Universe can’t provide for you?

3- God’s Promises to Answer Prayers

Do you believe that God hears and answers your prayers? Are there prayers that God hasn’t answered? Do you believe in God’s truth that nothing is impossible for Him (Luke 1:37)? God does answer many of my prayers, but I am waiting on some requests; yet. I choose not to focus on the unmet requests but believe that God can do the impossible. Sometimes He says “No.” I wrote a series of posts on why God sometimes does not answer our prayers. You can find these posts here. In this post, we will focus on claiming God’s promises to hear and answer our prayer. The following is a brief review to diagnose why God seemingly does not hear our prayers.

Is there sin in your life? Sin blocks our prayers (Is. 59:2). Confess all known sin and ask for God’s forgiveness (1John 1:9).
Are you trusting God? Your request may not be God’s will or it’s not the right time.
Are you praying for unregenerated people? People have the free will to choose to disobey God and live a self-destructive life.

God does not promise a trouble-free life, but he promises to deliver us from all our troubles when we hold fast to Him in love and call on Him. Read my second post to learn more. Satan will tempt you to despair and become anxious. Completely submit the issue to Him in prayer, and He will do the impossible. Resist the devil’s temptation to doubt God’s promises by standing firm and telling the devil what God’s promises are. Sometimes the impossible is when God gives us the power to forgive. Sometimes the impossible is having peace in our troubles.

As you read each promise, say it two times. The first time say, “I believe what (read the promise)” and the second time say, “Thank you, Lord, that (promise).”

I believe what Psalm 4:3 says, “But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.” “Thank you, Lord, that You have set apart the godly for Yourself and that You hear when I call to You.” To learn more about what it means to be godly, read my series of posts here. 1Peter 3:12 states, “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil [sin].”

Matthew 7:7-8 states, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ⁸For everyone who asks receives and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

Matthew 21:22 says, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

John 14:14 states, “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”

John 15:7 tells me, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

Ephesians 3:20 states, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.”

1John 5:14-15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. ¹⁵And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

2— God Promises to Deliver Us from Our Troubles

Dear Friends,

Are you concerned, maybe worried, about what is happening in America and around the world? Do you wonder how God will deliver you from your troubles? I have been pondering God’s promises, which gives me peace. But if you don’t know His promises, you can’t claim them.

Troubles are inevitable

Jesus says in John 16:33 that “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Tribulations also mean troubles or trials. Everyone has problems and hardships. We often have to endure difficulties before God delivers us because He uses them to conform us to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29) and to perfect us (James 1:2-4). No matter what happens, God will deliver you from all your troubles in His timing. The following scriptures define God’s promises to save you from your troubles. You may say that God did not answer my prayers, so why should I pray? But why didn’t God answer your prayers? There are many reasons for unanswered prayer. To learn about these reasons, please read my blog series in Posts on Prayer.

Do You Humbly Call on God through Prayer?

So many people stay stuck in their troubles because they are too prideful to ask for help, and they think they can take care of it themselves. God will let them stay in their difficulties until they repent and humbly pray and ask Him for help. Psalm 50:15 states, “And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” The condition is to call upon God. The result is to bring God glory. First, we need to be humble and realize we need His help and deliverance. It is humbling to ask for help. Hebrews 4:14-16 tells us, “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. ¹⁵For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. ¹⁶Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” When you are tempted to sin by what you think, say, or do that disobeys God’s commands, you can call on Jesus for help in prayer anytime.

In case you do not realize it, worry and anxiety over hardships are sins we are continually tempted to commit. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ⁷And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Matthew 6:31a says, “Do not be anxious.” To be anxious is to be full of mental distress or uneasiness because of fear of danger or misfortune (Dictionary.com 3/2022). Not being thankful and complaining are sins too.

The following scripture is so cool. Psalm 107:13-14 states, “Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. ¹⁴He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart.” The NIV says that God broke away their chains. Do you sometimes feel you are bound up, especially when anxious or depressed? The times I was depressed were the darkest times in my life. I felt so bound up, and I didn’t have hope of being free from my distress. Depression is complex, but the majority of depressed people are focused on their troubles and feel no hope, instead of looking to God, who is their hope of deliverance. For example, when I was going through a nasty divorce and custody battle, I was very anxious and depressed. Still, when I humbly looked up and cried out to God for help, He was there with me and delivered me from all my troubles. Do You Hold Fast to Him in Love?

We may not understand why we have to go through abuse or suffering, and why doesn’t God rescue us sooner? Psalm 91:14-15 explains, “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. ¹⁵When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.” The condition is to hold fast to God in love and call on Him. Sometimes, God walks with us through our trouble while He rescues us, and His will is accomplished in our lives. We just need to trust Him and keep our minds on his presence as we endure. Isaiah 43:2 states, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” This is a promise you can claim as well.

For example, when my supervisor at my old job was harassing me because she wanted me to quit, I was in trouble because I needed my job. I did not like the hardship I was enduring, but God was with me and helped me persevere. He amazingly transformed my character. I still lost my job, but He had another plan for my life, and everything worked out for my good. Romans 8:28 explains, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Here again, we need to love God to see the good and His purpose.

Are You Righteous?

Psalm 34:17 states, “When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” If you don’t know, the righteous are those who have received the Spirit of God into their hearts through Jesus Christ and now live through Him by faith (Rom. 1:7; 4:5; 5:19; 1John 2:29). When we sin, we become separated from God until we repent and confess our sins, then He will remove our unrighteousness (1John 1:9). 1Peter 3:12 explains, “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil [sin].” I can share so many more verses, but I encourage you to open up Biblegateway.com or Biblehub.com and ponder the scriptures on righteousness. Only the righteous will enter the kingdom of God.

1—God’s Promises – Introduction

Are you concerned, maybe worried, about what is happening in America and around the world? Do you wonder how God will work out His will for your life? I have been pondering God’s promises, which have given me peace. If you don’t know His promises, how can you claim them?

Never forget that God keeps His promises. 2Corinthians 1:20 tells us, “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” Also, Romans 4:20-21 states, “No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, ²¹fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.” God may not do what you want or how you want, but He always has your best interest in mind because only He knows your future. King David says in Psalm 139:16-18. “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. ¹⁷How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! ¹⁸If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.”

Most of God’s promises are conditional, for example, Jeremiah 7:23 states, “But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’” When we obey God and walk in His ways, then He will abide with us that it may be well with us.

God’s promises are for everyone. Acts 2:39 states, “For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” I have gathered many promises from the Bible, and I am sure there are many more. In future posts, I will share the scripture promises and applications for each of the following categories.

― God promises to be our protection/shield/stronghold

― God promises to provide for us

― God promises to reward us

― God is our Refuge

― God promises peace

― God promises to forgive our sins when we confess them and forgive others their sins

― God promises to never leave or forsake us

― God promises to give you the desires of your heart

― God promises to lead us

― God promises to answer prayer

― God promises to heal you

God never lies. Titus 1:2 states, “In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began.” And Hebrews 10:36 states. “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” Matthew 7:21 elaborates, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” John 6:40 explains what the Father’s will is, “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him [you and me] up on the last day.”

Here are a few more fantastic promises, note the condition is to believe. When we believe with our heart we will be saved. Romans 10:9 explains, “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” So many people only believe with their mind, or they say the apostle’s creed, but don’t believe with their heart. Here is how you know. Does the promise of eternal life make you happy and do the following verses make you excited or are they just Bible verses you memorize at one time? John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” In verse 36, we are encouraged to not only believe but obey as well.

If you believe with your heart that Jesus is the Son of God, then God abides in you and all His promises are for you? 1John 4:13-15 tells us, “By this we know that we abide in him [God] and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. ¹⁵Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” How wonderful is that, that the God who created the Universe dwells in us when we believe. Ephesians 3:17a states, “So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, which is believing.”

When will we receive the promise of eternal life? 2Peter 3:9 explains, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” Repentance is acknowledging your sins and seeking God’s forgiveness (1John 1:9). Sins are anything we think, say, or do that breaks God’s commands, namely, to love Him and to love each other (Luke 10:27). The Apostle Paul told Timothy in 1Timothy 2:4, “Who [God] desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Also, John explains in 1John 2:25, “And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life.” 2Corinthians 5:1 says, “For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” 1John 5:11 “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Ponder the following scriptures and how sin separates us from God and keeps us from receiving eternal life. Romans 5:21 “So that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Galatians 6:8 “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” We sow to the spirit by meditating on God’s word, which is keeping our minds on the things above (Colossians 3:1-3). God never lies, but the devil is a liar (John 8:44) and he will deceive you just enough to create unhealthy beliefs about God’s promises, so you don’t trust God. Satan wants us to remain in his oppressive control. Satan does not want you to spend eternity with God and will do everything to keep you from obeying and doing God’s will.

Conclusion

God keeps his promises, but for us to experience His promises we need to meet the conditions first. His promises are many and for everyone. Today, we looked at God’s promise of salvation and eternal life. The conditions were (1) to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and was raised again (1Cor. 15:1-6). (2) Believe with your heart and confess with your mouth what you believe. (3) Obey and do the will of the Father. (4) Die to our sinful nature and be righteous. (5) Humbly confess your sins and receive the free gift of God. (6) Sow to the Spirit.

Exposing Satan’s Attack on Christian Believers

How many people do you know won’t go to church for one reason or another? In my last post, I explained why Satan wants to destroy the church. He is effectively dismembering the body of Christ, but most Christians do not realize the unseen war all around them, so they let it go on. It is time to fight for the spiritual life of your fellow Believers and the Church. If you don’t know how to fight demonic forces, I recommend my book called Fighting Unseen Battles.

In my second post of this series, I addressed why people leave the church. Though there are many reasons, the number one reason people leave the church is being offended. Have you been offended by someone or something in the church? What was your natural response when you became offended? Most offended people simply leave the church and lose their faith, which is Satan’s goal for all of us. People are messy, and so is the church. Jesus said in Luke 5:32, “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

Satan causes Believers to Doubt and Walk Away From God

I ended one of my posts with Hebrews 3:12, which states, “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God.” Doubt is unbelief, which comes from the devil. Unbelief is a sin; otherwise, why would it be called evil? Unbelief is disobedience, as we are all called to believe.

Doubt leads to disobedience. Read in Genesis 3 how Satan deceived Eve into eating the apple. He began by causing her to doubt God, which led to disobedience and separation from God. Satan uses the same tactic. If that does not work, then he uses distraction. I know many young people who grew up in the church, then later believed Satan’s lies, began to doubt, and were lured away from their faith through worldliness. My oldest son is one of those people who stopped believing, and many of my friends and Pastors I know have children who doubted and walked away from their faith.

First, don’t judge them; they need your love. They know how you believe, so preaching to them does not help. Second, pray for God to remove the blinders that Satan has put on them (2Cor. 4:4). Remind God that He promised that His Word would not return void and accomplish what He intended it to do (Is. 55:11). Pray for God to restore them and lead them back to the path of righteousness (Ps. 23:3). Seek your Heavenly Father to keep drawing them to himself. (John 6:44). Don’t give up faith; keep praying for those who fell away from the faith because of doubt and worldliness. Hebrews 11:6 explains, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Continue to diligently seek God for your children and for everyone who has fallen away. Keep in mind that you are fighting an unseen war.

A friend said the worst thing she did was encourage her son to go to college. She feels that college caused him to doubt God, now he has walked away from his faith. My youngest son went to college and remained firm in his faith, but my oldest decided he would instead go the way of the world, which caused him to walk away from his faith. Many people doubt God because of unanswered prayers. I wrote a series of posts to expose this topic because I struggled in this area. You can read all my posts in Posts About Prayer. Satan will use any means to cause doubt, which is why we need to take every thought captive and make it obey Christ (2Cor. 10:5).

Lured Away from Our Faith By Worldly Activities

I have known many Christians who skipped church to participate in secular activities. Once in a while is okay, but what often happens is a person can find other activities they would rather do than go to church. For example, my husband is part of a group of guys who shoot at clays. Though the activity is held Sunday morning, he does not miss church but goes right after church and is usually the last group to do the rounds. More and more, sporting competitions are held Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights, which keep the kids and parents from attending church.

Since the pandemic and mandating churches to close their doors, many churches have lost members because the members are either too afraid to go to church or it is easier to do internet/TV church. I explain the danger of not attending church in my first post. Leaving the church for worldly pursuits is a slow fade; it is usually not all at one time. I have written a lot about the dangers of worldliness. Here are two posts, Recognize Worldly Thinking and be Free and Unseen Battle With The Secular World.

I had an inmate in my Bible Study admit to being strong in her faith, and she read her Bible every day. One day, as she watched TV, the Holy Spirit drew her to read her Bible, but she ignored the Holy Spirit and kept watching TV. Soon she stopped reading her Bible altogether and began to hang out with her old friends, who enticed her to get back into using drugs. She said she knew that when she stopped reading her Bible and stopped going to church, that was when Satan enticed her to hang out with her old friends. Now she was in jail again.

Why Satan is Waring against the Church

I had an incredible revelation as I pondered my last post on Winning the War Against The Church. Most of you probably already know, but for those who don’t, I hope you find my insight enlightening. The Church is not only a group of Believers who come together to worship God, grow in knowledge and grace, and meet the congregation’s needs. The Church is also called the body of Christ. Read the following verses and tell me if my interpretation is wrong. 1Corinthians 12:27 states, “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” Also, Ephesians 4:12-16 explains that the church leaders are “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, ¹³until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, ¹⁴so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. ¹⁵Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, ¹⁶from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

According to Ephesians 4:12-16, the church leaders are to build up and teach their parishioners how to trust in God and grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ so they can be mature Christians. Mature Christians won’t be deceived by false doctrine and deceitful schemes from false prophets. 1John 4:1 tells us, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Our focus is to know the truth, so we can speak the truth and grow in the image of our loving Christ Jesus. A mature Christian will help the body of Christ grow in love. If a Believer is divisive and a gossip, they are not acting in love, nor are they mature. When a Christian has damaged emotions from wounds and offenses, they will be spiritually weak. Bitter Christians cannot help the church body grow in love. Your soul wounds from repressed painful memories keep you from maturing emotionally, and they need to be found and healed for your heart to be pure. How Is The Church The Body of Christ?

Christ is the head of the Church (1Cor. 11:3 and Eph. 5:23). The passage in 1Corinthians 12:13-22 explains the members of the body of Christ as follows:

“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit [the Holy Spirit of God].

¹⁴For the body does not consist of one member but of many.

¹⁵If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.

¹⁶And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.

¹⁷If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?

¹⁸But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.

¹⁹If all were a single member, where would the body be?

²⁰As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. ²¹The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” ²²On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.”

We need each other. Everyone in the church is essential. The Apostle Paul explains this so well to the Roman Church. Romans 12:3-8, “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. ⁴For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, ⁵so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. ⁶Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; ⁷if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; ⁸the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”

Satan Wants to Destroy Jesus Christ Who Triumphed Over Him

Satan is trying to defeat the Church because it represents the body of Christ. Satan can’t destroy Jesus because He is seated at the right hand of God the Father, so Satan is working to destroy the Church instead. The Believers of Jesus Christ bear the image of Jesus. 1Corinthians 15:49 shows us, “Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.” Jesus bears the image of God. Colossians 1:15 explains, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” Satan hates God and everything God created. He wants to destroy all that God created (John 10:10). Christian believers are his number one target, so we need to be prepared and learn how to use the armor that God provided for us.
